The latest addition to the Altoona Public Library isn’t a book. It’s a local art show. (And it’s completely free!)
The library has officially debuted a Rotating Art Display, brought to life by the Altoona Arts and Culture Commission. It’s a first-of-its-kind feature for the space, offering local artists a chance to showcase their work in one of Altoona’s most beloved community hubs. Whether you’re here to check out a book, attend a program, or just enjoy the quiet, your library visit now comes with an extra dose of inspiration.

Meet the Artist: Terry Burger
Kicking off the new display is Altoona’s own Terry Burger, a local artist who paints rustic, heartfelt scenes of Iowa wildlife and landscapes. His medium of choice? Driftwood and barn boards. They’re natural materials that carry their own stories before the first brushstroke is even added.
From painted eagles on weathered wood to serene country scenes on salvaged boards, Terry’s work blends texture and tradition. He’s also the owner of Natures Canvas Artistry, and his creations can often be found at regional art shows or at Enchanted Beauty inside Merle Hay Mall.
An Exhibit That’s Always Fresh

The Rotating Art Display at the library will change quarterly, meaning there’s always something new to explore and always another local artist to celebrate. Even better? The exhibit is open to anyone. Local artists can submit their work for future display by applying through the city’s website.
This new addition is part of Altoona’s growing investment in public art that’s making creativity visible and accessible in everyday spaces. From sculptures in parks to murals on walls, and now paintings in the library, art is part of the Altoona experience.
Because here, creativity isn’t just confined to a gallery. It’s woven into the places we gather, learn, and grow.
